Mansfield College is seeking to appoint an experienced and strategic Domestic Bursar to lead the College’s Domestic Operations during a significant period of growth and development.
This is a particularly exciting time for Mansfield and our Bursary team as we embark on an ambitious College Transformation Project. The main focus of this project is a significant re-development of our existing site spanning four years with our Bursary team being a driving force behind the project’s success.
The Domestic Bursar is a senior leadership role with responsibility for accommodation, housekeeping, catering, lodge and reception services, conferences, bar and front-of-house operations. Reporting to the College Bursar and managing a team of senior departmental leads, the postholder will ensure high-quality service delivery, regulatory compliance and financial sustainability across a complex operational environment.
A Key Strategic Appointment
Over the next three years, the College will expand its accommodation portfolio to include:
45 new HMO rooms
3–4 Cambridge Street (38 rooms), for which the College has full responsibility for building management and maintenance
18 rooms sourced through Finders Keepers
In addition, the College will undergo a Universities UK Accommodation Code of Practice (UUKACoP) Audit in Spring 2027.
Given this expansion, strong facilities and buildings management experience is essential. The successful candidate will oversee statutory compliance, maintenance planning, contractor management, health and safety, and audit preparation across an increasingly complex estate.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic leadership of Domestic Services
Oversight of student accommodation and compliance frameworks
Responsibility for conference and commercial income generation
Budget management and financial oversight
Preparation for and successful delivery of the 2027 UUKACoP Audit
Leadership and development of senior operational managers
Person Profile
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
Significant senior management experience in a complex operational environment
Substantial facilities/buildings management expertise, ideally within residential or multi-occupancy settings
Strong knowledge of statutory compliance and HMO requirements
Financial acumen and experience managing substantial budgets
Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills
Experience within higher education, hospitality, or a collegiate environment would be advantageous.
