Job Purpose
To teach English for Academic Purposes to students on international foundation programmes (IFY). IFY Tutors deliver lessons that prepare students fully for participation in the first year of their university programme. The lessons adopt an interactive, student-centred approach.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching
To be responsible for teaching, assessment, marking, academic development, and scholarship in EAP
To deliver English for Academic Purposes to international students from a range of linguistic, educational, and cultural backgrounds at level 3.
Remain sensitive to the expectations of different nationalities whilst encouraging an open and questioning approach to learning that leads students to become independent learners
Provide academic support for students, as appropriate, through consultations and tutorials, demonstrating a willingness to offer extra advice outside normal class hours
Develop and maintain an encouraging classroom environment in which accepted rules of behaviour are consistently applied
Select, prepare and use teaching and learning materials appropriate for international students and contribute relevant materials to the teachers’ shared resource drive
Assess students throughout their modules, regularly creating, providing and marking both formative and summative evaluations
Provide detailed oral and written feedback to students and other stakeholders, for example, the Director of Studies, as required
Carry out administrative and record-keeping tasks associated with teaching and assessment (e.g., accurate attendance records, student progress reports, test invigilation)
Using the course descriptor write a scheme of work, and mark assessments using marking criteria to specified deadlines
Populate the VLE with relevant materials for students to access
Administrative
Attend staff meetings
Keep an accurate record of student attendance and lateness and alert the AMT to any absences where required
Complete a weekly scheme of work at the start of each week, and record of work for what has been taught after each lesson
Complete student reports at the end of their course and at any other times requested by the AMT
Other
Attend staff induction prior to the start of the contract
Complete online welfare and safeguarding training and any other non-teaching training required by OIEG
Be a positive and professional role model for the students, representing the core values of OIEG
Attend CPD sessions provided by OIEG. However, teachers are expected to take a strong interest in and responsibility for their own CPD as an English language teacher, with the support of the AMT
Dress appropriately to the role at all times
Abide by the school systems and procedures as outlined in the Teacher Manual
Contribute positively to the inclusive atmosphere of the school by working collaboratively with students and staff.

Legal status
Eligibility to live and work in the UK
Enhanced DBS disclosure check or overseas equivalent
Qualifications
Recognised ELT qualification, e.g. Trinity DipTESOL or Cambridge DELTA
Undergraduate degree (*not a requirement for a candidate with a Level 7 qualification or working towards this qualification)
Experience and knowledge
Demonstrable English language proficiency (CEFR C2, IELTS 8.5)
Demonstrable knowledge of effective language teaching and learning strategies
Experience of working with teenagers and young learners
Experience of working in a Language Teaching Organisation (e.g. language school, university language centre)
Experience of working with students from a diversity of cultures and language backgrounds (Desirable)
Experience of teaching IELTS/FCE/CAE/Business/EAP courses (Desirable)
