About the role
We are seeking an experienced and professional HR Manager to lead the Human Resources function at St Antony’s College. This is a senior role within the College, responsible for delivering a high-quality, responsive and legally compliant HR service in a generalist standalone role.
Reporting to the Bursar, the HR Manager is a member of the Senior Administrative Team and contributes to the strategic development of the College. The role works closely with Heads of Department, senior academics and colleagues across the College.
The HR Manager has overall responsibility for the strategic and operational management of the HR function. Supported by an HR Administrator, you will oversee the full employee lifecycle and ensure that HR policies and practices reflect current legislation, best practice and the needs of the College.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading and developing the HR function and promoting good practice across the College
Advising managers and senior colleagues on employment law, remuneration and workforce planning
Developing, reviewing and implementing HR policies and maintaining the Staff Handbook
Updating and publishing the Equality Policy and staff monitoring data, and supporting the Equality & Diversity Committee
Leading College-wide training initiatives and overseeing the Personal Development Review process
Managing complex employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, capability and redundancy matters
Overseeing sickness absence, Occupational Health referrals, family leave and right-to-work compliance
Running and analysing the annual staff survey and implementing agreed actions
Ensuring HR systems, payroll processes and records are accurate, compliant and fit for purpose
Producing reports for senior committees and managing HR budgets
What we’re looking for
Essential
Significant HR experience at both strategic and operational levels
Ability to perform in a standalone HR role with the support of a HR Administrator
Strong knowledge of employment legislation and best practice
Proven experience managing complex employee relations cases
Experience developing HR policies and procedures
Excellent communication, judgement and organisational skills
High levels of discretion, accuracy and IT competence
CIPD Level 7 (or equivalent) with evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable
Experience managing budgets
Experience in a Higher Education environment
