About the role:
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is seeking a Teaching Fellow to contribute to teaching in engineering mathematics (lecturing) and design (tutoring) in our undergraduate programme during the academic year 2026-27.
We are a dynamic teaching team. We provide support and collaboration, promote innovation, and emphasise critical reflexivity in our teaching – always learning from our students, from our own experience, and from each other.
What you would be doing:
Prepare and deliver lectures in first-year undergraduate engineering mathematics (linear algebra, differential equations, vector calculus), and accompanying tutorials.
Support teaching in design and manufacture as a tutor. Contribute more generally to administration and teaching on one of the top global Mechanical Engineering undergraduate programmes.
What we are looking for:
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of engineering mathematics, especially linear algebra, differential equations and vector calculus.
You will have ability to communicate clearly, respond to student needs, and relate mathematics to its applications in engineering is essential.
Experience with designing mechanical systems is also highly desired, to support our teaching in design and manufacturing.
Experience in industry and/or research are desirable, and experience delivering teaching in higher education would be considered an advantage.
All our teaching-focussed academic staff hold teaching qualifications, and when we recruit, we look for a genuine motivation to work towards a qualification, such as PGCert.
What we can offer you:
Work with inspiring students from around the world
Contribute to the top-ranked Mechanical Engineering degree in the UK (#1 in all league tables)
Genuine teaching responsibilities, delivering lectures and tutorials, with the freedom to innovate and deliver in a way that suits you and our students
Pro-active support form colleagues and management, in research-rich environment that highly values teaching
High quality materials, and sector-leading technologies including Lambda Feedback
Sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 38 days off a year)
