The Role
We are recruiting to the role of Research Finances Officer to join our Research Office team. We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented individual passionate about supporting cutting-edge research and innovation.
Key responsibilities will include
Develop thorough budgets for research and knowledge exchange projects, ensuring adherence with the funder’s guidelines and maximisation of value for money.
Approve the financial terms of all bids before institutional signing off and scrutinise and finalise for acceptance project contracts with external bodies, ensuring the compliance with internal/external rules/regulations/policies.
Liaise proactively with funders and collaborators (other universities) regarding pre- and post-award issues.
Maintain a database and a filed record of bids and post-award contracts and reports.
Analyse data from Finance with regards to financial management of projects & providing a summary to academic staff/relevant stakeholders
The successful candidate will have skills and experience in
Comprehensive knowledge of and practical skills in all aspects of budgetary control and the financial operations in a large organisation
Experience using financial software and systems for research grants management (e.g., Unit4/Agresso, Oracle, Midland iTrent).
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables, formulas, and data analysis).
Experience in financial management of externally funded research projects, ideally in a Higher Education or Research Institute setting.
Excellent written communication skills to create clear, concise reports for internal and external stakeholders
