About the role:

Based in the Centre for Structural Biology (CSB), one of Imperial’s Multi-Faculty Centres and Networks, this role is responsible for managing the crystallisation and X-ray crystallography facility within the CSB, including the training of facility users. You will work closely with users to support crystallisation experiments and X-ray crystallographic data collection, both within the CSB and at synchrotrons (primarily at the Diamond Light Source).

What you would be doing:

You will manage and maintain the Facility’s crystallisation robots, plate sealer, plates and associated peripherals, as well as the X-ray generator and its mirrors, detectors and cryo-cooling systems. You will co-ordinate beamtime applications, reports and synchrotron trips, and will train Facility users in the safe use of various instruments.

You’ll keep up-to-date with technological developments at synchrotrons, disseminating information to users and implementing new procedures in the Facility as appropriate.

You’ll also have responsibility for the health and safety aspects of the Facility, producing and updating safety and operational documentation to ensure compliance with various regulatory requirements.

What we are looking for:

  • Extensive experience in protein crystallisation and X-ray crystallographic structure determination
  • Experience of data collection techniques using synchrotron radiation
  • The ability to prioritise your work effectively and meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication, and attention to detail.
