About the role:

We are seeking a talented Research Associate to work in the Microplastics team within the Environmental Research Group in the School of Public Health at Imperial College London on an exciting research programme. Working closely with the PI and their team, the post holder will be responsible for managing and conducting research, with a focus on multimodal microscopy and imaging for micro- and nanoplastic particle detection in biological matrices.

What you would be doing:

You will:

  • Plan and coordinate research in accordance with the project aims.
  • Operate and maintain a multimodal imaging platform and train new users.
  • Develop and optimise sample preparation and analytical methods relevant to the project.
  • Characterise and quantify plastic micro- and nanoparticles in samples.
  • Analyse data and perform chemometrics and multivariate analyses as required.

What we are looking for:

You must hold a PhD (or equivalent) in one of the following: physical chemistry, vibrational spectroscopy, bioimaging, multimodal microscopy or related discipline. You should also have experience in preparing biological samples for analysis, as well as practical experience within a research environment and publication in peer-reviewed journals. Knowledge of microplastic pollution is desired, but not essential.

This is a full time fixed term post for 24 months, with potential for extension.

Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant at £47,223 per annum.
