Salary: Full time starting salary is normally in the range £36,636 to £46,049 with potential progression once in post to £48,822

Role Summary

We are seeking to appoint an autonomous and experienced Research Fellow to deliver the mixed‑methods process evaluation for the COMbAT Fatigue feasibility study, part of a wider NIHR‑funded Programme Grant. The programme aims to co‑produce and evaluate the effectiveness of a self‑management intervention for post‑stroke fatigue.

The postholder will play a key role in delivering high‑quality qualitative and quantitative research within a large, interdisciplinary collaboration involving the Universities of Birmingham, Cambridge and Bournemouth, alongside NHS and community partners across the West Midlands.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

• Deliver the mixed‑methods process evaluation for a multi‑site feasibility study
• Conduct and analyse semi‑structured interviews with stroke survivors and clinicians
• Score intervention fidelity using appointment recordings and structured checklists
• Analyse quantitative process data from a web‑based self‑management programme
• Contribute actively to Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) activities
• Disseminate findings through academic publications, reports and presentations
• Contribute to research management, administration and collaborative working within the project and wider research group

Some travel may be required to conduct interviews.

Person Specification

You will have:

• A first degree in a relevant discipline and normally a higher degree (PhD or equivalent) relevant to the research area
• Strong analytical skills, with experience of qualitative research methods and mixed‑methods studies
• The ability to communicate complex information clearly to academic, clinical and public audiences
• Experience of working collaboratively within interdisciplinary research teams
• An understanding of research governance, equality, diversity and inclusive research practice

About the Project

The COMbAT Fatigue programme has completed its first phase, which focused on co‑development of a digital self‑management intervention. This role will support the next stage: a multi‑site feasibility study testing acceptability and feasibility of the intervention and trial design.
