Are you a proactive finance professional ready to step into a role with real influence and visibility?

We are recruiting a Senior Finance Officer to play a central role in the financial management of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine (CV Med), one of the University of Oxford’s leading research divisions. This is a newly created post, offering an excellent opportunity to shape financial processes, develop leadership capability, and support world-class research.

About the role

Working closely with the Deputy Business Manager and Grants & Finance Manager, you will take responsibility for the department’s non-research finance function, providing high-quality management accounting, financial analysis and compliance oversight.

You will:

  • Lead month-end, quarter-end and year-end financial processes, including accruals, prepayments and variance analysis
  • Support annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting, working directly with budget holders
  • Provide clear, insightful financial reporting to inform decision-making
  • Act as the lead for financial compliance and self-assurance within CV Med
  • Line manage and develop finance staff, building capability and resilience within the team
  • Drive continuous improvement of financial processes, embedding University policies and best practice

This role sits within a collaborative departmental and divisional finance community and offers genuine scope to influence how finance supports research and clinical activity.

About you

You will bring:

  • Previous experience in a finance role, preferably within higher education
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, including accruals and prepayments
  • Confidence using financial systems (Oracle experience is particularly desirable) and advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with a solutions-focused approach
  • Experience supporting or supervising colleagues, with the confidence to guide and advise stakeholders

Experience within a large or complex organisation — and exposure to budgets, forecasting or research finance — would be advantageous.

Applications for this vacancy must be submitted online. You will be required to upload a CV and a supporting statement outlining how you meet the selection criteria for the role.

Please note that only applications received before 12:00 midday on 15th May 2026 can be considered. Interviews are scheduled to take place w/c 1st June 2026.
