Fixed Term Lectureship in Theoretical Philosophy

Mansfield College invites applications for a one year Fixed-Term Stipendiary Lectureship in Theoretical Philosophy teaching four ‘weighted’ hours a week, starting from 1st October 2026.

The duties of the post include:

  1. Teaching four weighted hours a week (averaged over three eight-week terms) through tutorials. (Weighted hours allows a tutorial or class to count as more than a single hour where the number of students taught is higher than one). The successful candidate must be able to offer tutorials in Introductory Logic and General Philosophy (an introduction to metaphysics and epistemology) for first year students, and two or more advanced Philosophy papers. The ability to teach Knowledge and Reality and/or Plato’s Republic in translation is desirable but not required.
  2. Supporting the administration and organisation of subject teaching of PPE and Philosophy and Theology at the College, in collaboration with the other PPE and Theology and Religion tutors.
  • The successful candidate may be required to serve as a College advisor for a small number of postgraduates.

Additional Duties

There may be opportunities to participate in undergraduate admissions interviewing or access events for which additional payment will be made on an hourly basis.
