The King’s Centre for Military Health Research (KCMHR) is the leading civilian UK centre of excellence for military health research and independent of the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD). About the role:

The successful candidate will be expected to co-deliver a MoD funded programme of work focussed on large scale combat operations (LSCO). The project is delivered against three research questions, all of which focus on how best to support the Defence Medical Services with preparing for the mental health consequences of deployment to a LSCO.

• How can we accurately predict psychiatric casualty rates in a contemporary LSCO?
• What preparation or intervention can feasibly be provided at scale within war zones?
• How do we identify those likely to recover via early intervention versus those likely to require a longer treatment pathway?

They will be expected to oversee the work of the project team (Research Assistant and PhD student), lead delivery of the work packages and manage delivery against KPIs. The post holder will have strong statistical skills, experienced with systematic reviews, support the programme Research Assistant and supervise a PhD student (to be appointed) and be experienced in writing reports and papers for publication in high impact journals. The post holder will have an interest and understanding of military culture and mental health also have strong communication skills and be capable of working with senior members of the MoD and within academia.

The post holder will also be required to undergo additional MoD security clearance.

Key responsibilities:

• Carry out the delivery of the programme of work, e.g. statistical analyses, agreed outputs and activities
• Line management of a Research Assistant
• Supervision of a PhD student
• Carry out systematic reviews
• Contribute to teaching programmes and supervision within the IoPPN and serve as a personal tutor
• Project management, ensuring all KPIs are met with in accordance with the contract timelines
• Regular engagement with key stakeholders and collaborators nationally and internationally
• Publication and dissemination of project related scholarship in peer reviewed journals
• Lead dissemination of results at meetings and conferences
• Producing briefings/outputs for key stakeholders and MoD
• Participating in KCMHR internal meetings and forums

This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 28th February 2030.
