Job description:

Are you an experienced research programme leader with a background in complex clinical research delivery? We are searching for a Senior Research Programme Manager to deliver strategic and operational oversight across a substantial, externally funded portfolio within the Clinical Infection Research Group.

You will be responsible for the successful delivery of a varied programme of international and UK clinical research studies. This includes coordinating financial management, regulatory adherence, workforce planning, and risk control. Collaborating closely with clinical academic leaders, you will turn research strategy into operational actions. You will lead a multidisciplinary team and ensure balanced growth and strong performance of the portfolio.

This is a senior role requiring significant autonomy, good judgement, and the ability to manage complexity across multiple interdependent projects.

The Role

Leading a portfolio of over 30 active grants and supporting 8 Principal Investigators, you will be the strategic anchor for a programme spanning global health, infectious diseases, and immunity. This is not a standard administrative post; it is a high-level operational role where you will:

  • Lead Strategy: Develop the long-term operational and financial strategy to sustain our "core" infrastructure and workforce across multiple funding streams.
  • Manage Risk: Provide specialised technical oversight for our Human Challenge studies, including managing the complex logistics of GMP-like bacterial manufacturing and regulatory compliance.
  • Drive Delivery: act as the designated Project Manager for our most complex, high-risk grants, ensuring agility and precision in our delivery of research both abroad and in the UK.
