Job description:

Are you a researcher passionate about defeating cancer? Join us to pioneer new therapies for breast cancer metastasis.

We have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Research Associate to make a real-world impact on cancer survival.

The Role

Working within the Gartland Group, you will drive a 3-year project funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research. You will investigate the P2X7 receptor's role in breast cancer metastasis to bone, using your expertise to develop novel therapies to combat this devastating disease.

Who We Are Looking For

You are a collaborative scientist with a PhD (or equivalent experience) in molecular or cancer biology. You are a "can-do" researcher who enjoys technical challenges and possesses expertise in:

  • Advanced Cancer Models: Experience with in-vivo and ex-vivo models of breast cancer metastasis and bone disease.
  • Cell Biology: Proficiency in co-culture models (breast, bone, and lung cells) under both normoxic and hypoxic conditions.
  • Molecular Techniques: Hands-on experience with CRISPR-Cas9, flow cytometry, and EV isolation.
  • Omics & Imaging: Familiarity with transcriptomic analysis, proteomics, and histology (IHC/IF).
  • Mentorship: You enjoy sharing your knowledge and helping to train the next generation of PhD and MSc students.

Why Sheffield?

You will join the School of Medicine and Population Health, a world-class research environment. You will work in a well-connected team with a global reputation in bone oncology. This role offers you the opportunity to strengthen your research profile by attending international conferences and publishing in high-impact journals.
