Job description:

Are you an experienced, independent finance professional with excellent technical skills and the ability to oversee a portfolio of large, complex activities? If so, this role could be just for you!

Reporting to the AMRC Finance Manager, the position provides an excellent and challenging opportunity for a highly motivated and technically competent qualified or part qualified chartered accountant.

With your demonstrable accountancy experience, IT skills and analytical ability, you will deliver timely, accurate and informative financial advice and reporting to facilitate key business decision making.

You will help develop and deliver more efficient, robust processes and controls to enable the business to operate more effectively.

What you’ll be doing

  • Providing support and information to colleagues in the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre.
  • Helping ensure that financial plans remain sustainable and financial risks are identified, understood and managed.
  • Quickly developing a thorough understanding and working knowledge of HE research grant funding, and becoming a recognised source of financial support and advice to research grant holders within a faculty.
  • Undertaking proactive analysis of both internal and external faculty income and expenditure.
  • Providing professional financial advice to in order to examine, identify and assess potential or impending areas of financial risk and make recommendations to minimise risk.
  • Communicating key issues relating to financial planning and operation, exchange ideas and best practice, develop relationships within the AMRC and professional services and contribute to the implementation of financial strategies and policies.
  • Facilitating the effective operation of financial systems, sharing best practice, and providing training opportunities for staff.
  • Work with colleagues within Finance and the AMRC to resolve financial issues and ensure transparency and consistency of information.
  • Providing line management support and guidance to the assistant finance business partners.
