The University of Plymouth is recruiting a Lecturer in Education (PGCE Further Education (FE)) with a strong professional profile in FE and experience of teacher training, preferably at FE level, to contribute to the development of our PGCE FE provision.

About the role

The University of Plymouth has an established PGCE FE programme, with a network of partnership institutions that stretch across the Southwest of England and beyond. We are at an exciting moment in FE, with a government agenda likely to lead to the expansion of the FE sector, and of the need for teachers to support this expansion.

You will teach across all aspects of our PGCE FE programme, and contribute to the management of the programme, likely the leadership of our Plymouth-based provision and/or mentor coordination across our partnership.We are looking for someone who understands the FE sector, can see the potential of our PGCE FE provision both at Plymouth and beyond, and who can help us to make the most of the opportunities that are opening up behind the government FE agenda, and the investment that is coming into the city and surrounding region.

Due to the nature of the role, unfortunately we are unable to accommodate working from home.

This is a part-time position working 22.2 hours per week on a fixed-term basis for 2 years due to Business Demand.

Due to the nature of this role, an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check plus a Children’s Barred List and Adults Barred List check will be required.

What we’re looking for

You will have:

  • A PGCE or equivalent postgraduate teaching qualification
  • A track record of delivery of high-quality research-led teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level
  • The ability to demonstrate enhancement to the learning experience through flexible delivery and pedagogic innovation, including the use of digital media where appropriate to meet the diverse needs of students; experience of contributing to quality assurance activities (such as approval, periodic review, student complaints).
  • The ability to deliver high-quality innovative teaching and learning.
  • Experience of academic administration and leadership
  • Excellent academic and pastoral support for students
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team and to take initiative
