About the role:

We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated Manager to lead all aspects of the Chemical Biology facility including operational, financial and strategic planning.  Your specialist expertise will deliver a world-class service to both internal, external users and commercial partners.  You will manage and allocate tasks to technical staff within remit and support other departmental managers, providing appropriate cover during annual leave, sickness, commensurate with the grade.

What you would be doing:

You will manage all operational, financial and planning aspects of the Chemical Biology Facility:

The Chemical Biology Facility encompasses Tissue Culture, Autoclaving, Protein Production Laboratories and multi-user equipment (approx. £500K).  You will have overall responsibility for managing the day-to-day operations of these areas and associated staff.  You will ensure compliance with legislation, financial sustainability, and delivery of high-quality technical services to internal and external users, alongside leading staff, maintaining safety standards and support biosafety in collaboration with the Faculty Safety team.

What we are looking for:

  • PhD, or professional experience in relevant field/subject
  • Previous work experience in a relevant research instrumentation role (HE or Industry)
  • Line Management experience
  • Proven experience in managing technical or research facilities
  • Experience in developing and delivering training for a range of academic levels
  • Expert working knowledge of Chemical Biology laboratories and associated equipment
  • Expertise in biosafety, tissue culture and protein production processes
  • Advanced understanding of health and safety regulations and procedures
  • Understanding, write and review risk assessments and SOP’s
  • Knowledge of financial reporting for facilities and UKRI’s Transparent Approach to Costing (TRAC)
  • Ability to implement sustainable practices and drive continuous improvement
